Phillip (Phil) W. Terry serves as Chairman of the Board for Capstone Natural Resources II, LLC. He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Capstone Natural Resources, LLC. Prior to its merger with SandRidge Energy in July, 2010, Mr. Terry served as Chief Executive Officer of Arena Resources. He joined Arena in 2003 as its Operations Engineer and was the first and only technical employee for several years. Mr. Terry was named President and Chief Operating Officer in 2007, and one year later was named President and Chief Executive Officer. Because of tremendous production and reserves growth, Arena’s Net Asset Value increased from $67 million in 2003 to $1.6 billion (the merger transaction price) in 2010.
Mr. Terry began his career with Mobil Oil Corporation in 1970 as a Production Engineer in Hobbs, New Mexico, followed by assignments in Sundown, Midland, and Kingsville, Texas. He spent nearly seven years with Mobil in production, drilling, reservoir, and engineering supervision. His work with Mobil primarily involved the San Andres and Clearfork reservoirs found on the Central Basin Platform of the Permian Basin, as well as the reservoirs of South Texas and the Texas Gulf Coast.
The years after Mobil and before Arena found Mr. Terry involved with both large and small E&P companies as both an engineer and corporate officer. He was associated with the growth and eventual sale of two start-up companies, and he was also an independent owner and operator of producing oil properties. Mr. Terry’s career has involved engineering, drilling, producing, appraising, and managing properties in the Permian Basin of Texas and New Mexico, South Texas, North Texas, the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. Mr. Terry is a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Oklahoma State University and is a Registered Professional Petroleum Engineer in Texas.
Patric R. McConn serves as Chief Executive Officer of Capstone Natural Resources II, LLC. Most recently Mr. McConn served as Vice President – Geology of Capstone Natural Resources. During his tenure with Capstone Natural Resources, Mr. McConn (alongside Mr. Terry) was responsible for identifying and directing evaluations of oil & gas acquisitions and for geological and reservoir analysis. In addition, Mr. McConn was instrumental in picking drilling and recompletion opportunities for Capstone’s assets.
Mr. McConn has 32 years of experience as a Geologist and Reservoir Analyst within the Permian Basin and Mid-Continent Regions. Before his tenure with Capstone, Mr. McConn served as Geological Manager of Permian Central Region for SandRidge Energy, Inc. and VP of Geology for Arena Resources, Inc. From 1983 through 2007, Mr. McConn served various small independents as an exploitation geologist. Mr. McConn’s responsibilities included evaluation of oil and gas acquisitions, managing exploitation and divestiture programs and directing well-site geology. Mr. McConn holds a Bachelor of Science – Geology from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma and a Mini MBA from the University of Tulsa.
Michael L. Willis serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Capstone Natural Resources II, LLC. Mr. Willis previously served as the General Counsel of Capstone Natural Resources. From 2003 to 2012, Mr. Willis practiced law at Newton, O’Connor, Turner & Ketchum, PC, originally as an Associate before serving as Director beginning in 2009. His practice areas included Business Transactions, Corporate and Commercial Law, Employment Law, Water Law, Civil Litigation and Government Relations. From 1994 to 2001, Mr. Willis served as District Director, Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for Congressman Steve Largent. Mr. Willis holds a Bachelor of Science – Agronomy from Oklahoma State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law where he was awarded the Order of the Curule Chair, the highest honor bestowed by the college.
Fred Schantz serves as Vice President – Land for Capstone Natural Resources II, LLC. Fred began his Landman career in Midland, Texas, in June, 1977, with Marathon Oil Company after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Petroleum Land Management. In July, 1981, he joined The Superior Oil Company and continued his career with Mobil Oil Company (after Mobil acquired Superior in 1985) until January, 2000. Fred then worked as an in-house contract Landman for several companies in Midland, including Chevron. In May, 2005, he joined Unit Petroleum Company as district Landman for their Midland office where he worked until July, 2007, when he joined Legacy Reserves as Land Manager. Fred has been a Certified Professional Landman for 30 years. He served on the Permian Basin Landman’s Association board as a director three different terms prior to serving on the PBLA board as 1st Vice President during 2009-2010, and then as President during 2010-2011. Fred has been a member of the AAPL since 1976, and a member of the PBLA since 1977.
Kim D. Nichols is currently serving as Controller for Capstone Natural Resources II. Ms. Nichols served as the Accounting Manager at Capstone Natural Resources where she was solely responsible for overseeing the accounting functions of Capstone including AP, GL, Revenue, bank transfers, reconciliations, setting up of accounting software, lease operating statement reporting, AFE setups & reporting, acquisition set ups, internal control, and compliance.
With 27 years of managerial experience managing accounting departments and internal controls with Fortune 500 companies engaged in property acquisition and development, Ms. Nichols was the natural choice to take on the responsibilities of Operational, Revenue and Financial Accounting for Capstone. Ms. Nichols previously served as Accounting Manager of Arena Resources, Inc. where she established Internal Control Processes and streamlined all their accounting functions and reports. Ms. Nichols also served as Revenue Accounting Supervisor for Vintage Petroleum. Ms. Nichols attended Tulsa Junior College and Tulsa University.
Clint Brian is Vice President – Operations of Capstone Natural Resources II. Mr. Brian served in the same capacity for Capstone Natural Resources. Prior to joining Capstone, Mr. Brian served as Production Manager for Arena Resources. Mr. Brian worked as a petroleum engineer for Cimerax, Apache Corporation, and Halliburton Energy Services for over 16 years. Mr. Brian has been responsible for production and completion operations in the Permian Basin, Texas Panhandle, Woodford Shale, East Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Mr. Brian is an Agricultural Engineering graduate of Texas A & M University and is a registered Professional Petroleum Engineer in Texas, Oklahoma & Louisiana.
Douglas S. Farquharson: Vice President – Reservoir Engineering
Mr. Farquharson has 38 years of experience across all facets of the oil and gas business, including reservoir and production engineering, drilling, acquisitions and divestitures. Over his career, Mr. Farquharson has worked at Amoco, Indian Wells Oil Company, Cove Petroleum, Ricks Exploration and Makefield Oil Company.

Carl Piowaty is Manager of Geology for Capstone Natural Resources II. Mr. Piowaty leads the Capstone II team in acquisition evaluation, and is responsible for bringing all acquisition opportunities forward for technical review. As an Associate Geologist for Capstone Natural Resources, he directly supported Mr. McConn in the evaluation of oil and gas acquisition opportunities, along with developing and exploiting Capstone’s existing assets. In addition, Mr. Piowaty managed all well-site geology. Mr. Piowaty served as a Geo-Tech for Arena Resources, Inc., before completing his Masters of Science – Geology degree from Oklahoma State University. Mr. Piowaty also served six years active duty in the US Navy.
Lois Perry serves as the Geo/Engineering Tech and Production Analyst for Capstone Natural Resources II. Ms. Perry served as Accounting/Production Analyst at Capstone Natural Resources. Prior to joining the Capstone team, Ms. Perry worked for Unit Petroleum Company for two years as a Land Tech: one year with the Panhandle Central (Texas) Division and one year with the Kansas – Mississippi Division. Prior to Unit, Ms. Perry was a Production Analyst at Arena Resources Inc. Preceding Arena, Ms. Perry’s career included working for several Oil and Gas Companies in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Vanessa Allen serves as the Land Technician and Lease Analyst for Capstone Natural Resources II. Prior to Capstone, Mrs. Allen worked for one year with Apache Corporation as a Land Tech in the Permian Region. Prior to Apache, Mrs. Allen worked for seven years with Legacy Reserves as a Land Tech as well as serving on the Business Development team for Acquisitions and Divestitures.
Carol Burger serves as the Administrative Assistant/Production Tech at Capstone Natural Resources II. As Office Manager for Capstone Natural Resources she managed and directed daily office administration including facilities, event planning, and office purchases. In addition, Ms. Burger assists with accounting functions as necessary. Previously, Ms. Burger worked for Arena Resources, Inc. as receptionist and then as Executive Administrative Assistant. Additionally, Ms. Burger served as Administrative Assitant for ODEN Insurance Services, Inc. creating license agreements and arranging new customer accounts. Ms. Burger also has 12 years of administrative experience working in Tulsa Public Schools.
